Message sent before I completed it. Sorry about that.
Groat may not be Gruit after all. The author has one other passage in
the book which references groats:
Beer made from the infusion of malted groats,
or malted rye, is lighter and more diuretic than
the common barley beer.
Groats, in a grain sense, are:
Hulled, usually crushed grain, especially oats.
So maybe this isn't such a mysterious ingredient after all.
