hist-brewing: Gruit and Unhopped Ales

Mon Jan 8 11:43:07 PST 2001

Well, I finally have gotten the web page up with Adam Larsen's posts on brewing traditional Northern European ales. It is at http://sca_brew.homestead.com/Gruit.html . This is a great resource and I hope many of you take the time to try some of the recipes. The great thing is these are recipes that have stood the test of time, and, that we know the details of, taking some of the guess work out of recreating a historic beer from scratch. I have brewed one of the Ales so far myself, Ulla's Table Ale, and it was excellent, it recently took 3rd place in the AHA Club Only Competition, up against some steep competition from brew clubs across the country.

If you do brew one of these recipes, please report back to the list on the results.

Enjoy, and thanks Adam.
