hist-brewing: Switchel

Hi all,

does anyone know anything about Switchel.  Appariently it was a historic
(see pree 1600's) 'revitaliser'.  It resores electrolytes.

I have found a recipe and reference to it in an only rec.org.sca message,
but I am after some documentation.
