S. Soranzo could also erroneously be attributing the effect of spices to 
the wheat.  We don't know what beers he was comparing, and if he's 
comparing a lightly-hopped plain beer with a highly-spiced weizen-ish 
beer, he could be misattributing a stronger aroma/flavor to the wheat 
instead of the spices.
