Okay, here are those promised references that said that, while the Troy
pound was the "legal" pound of England in the 15th-16th centuries, the
Tower and Avoirdupois pounds were actually far more common in daily usage:

TITLE: British weights & measures : a history from antiquity to the
seventeenth century / Ronald Edward Zupko.
  AUTHOR/NAME: Zupko, Ronald Edward.
PUBLISHED: Madison : University of Wisconsin Press, 1977.

TITLE: A dictionary of weights and measures for the British
Isles :
the Middle Ages to the twentieth century / Ronald Edward
                   Zupko.
  AUTHOR/NAME: Zupko, Ronald Edward.
PUBLISHED: Philadelphia : American Philosophical Society, 1985.

Yes, both are by the same author, but he gives different little bits of
information and source citations in each.
