Okay, here are those promised references that said that, while the Troy
pound was the "legal" pound of England in the 15th-16th centuries, the
Tower and Avoirdupois pounds were actually far more common in daily usage:

Yes, both are by the same author, but he gives different little bits of
information and source citations in each.
