hist-brewing: Brewing beer on board

Brewing beer on ship would not be a difficult task, just use an empty
barrel and put the lid on loosely. Not a big problem, and the ingredients
are pretty simple to have on board, grain, yeast and hops. Or no hops,
as they saw fit. Yeast could be reused in bread, also, grains easily
gotten in any port.

I went round the replica of the Endevour last Saturday. (Captain Cook's
ship for his first expedition.) As a passing comment one of the guides
said that they brewed beer whilst they were on the ship. Is this
correct? Looking at the galley it would have been a hell of a job at

Perhaps whilst they were in "harbour" they may have brewed, making use
of readily available fresh water.
