I'm replying to the list, just in case anyone else needs this info.
After I said:
>>It could be worthwhile asking on the Medieval Science Discussion List,
>>MEDSCI-L at BROWNVM.brown.edu Translations seem to be a common request

Hollie Hoffman <hhoffman at uwf.edu> asks:
>> What's the subscription procedure?
It's a LISTSERV based group. With all these there are two addresses, a list
address and a subscribe address.
If you send a note to LISTSERV at BROWNVM.BROWN.EDU
a line like "subscribe MEDSCI-L <your name.. _not_ your email address>" will
subscribe you to the list, and "help" will fetch you a help file.
If you send a note to MEDSCI-L at BROWNVM.brown.edu, it will be distributed to
all subscribers.
I'd reccomend sending for the help file first
