What if we had (for lack of a better word) "badges" that people could
earn.  Kinda like the boy scouts.  If you want to show your ability, or
you need a goal for motivation, you could work towards getting a badge. 
The badges would not have anything to do with a rank, standing, etc.
they would just mean that the person is accomplished in that field. 
This would be entirely voluntary and optional.
Just my two cents worth.
