Come join us in the Barony of Windmaster's Hill for a day of merriment and
mystery as we celebrate Twelfth Night in the grand tradition of a Masqued
Ball. The theme of the event is Period Costume! Throughout much of the
time period, gentles wore "fancy dress", period dress accentuated by costume
accessories such as masks, paints, furs, headdresses, etc. Most people did
not make garb that could only be worn once in a lifetime; instead, they
focused on the accessories to make their fancy clothes take on the "life" of
an actual costume. Later in period, gentles actually did make clothing
"stylized" to a certain time period, i.e. someone coming as the goddess
Minerva who actually lived in 1400's France would not make an actual Roman
toga dress; rather, they would use a dress style of their time period and
modify it to look more toga-like using Roman elements of style, color and
pattern. To assist us in creating the right atmosphere, we encourage
everyone to make some attempt at masquerade, whether it be simple facepaints
or elaborate headpieces. Come as animals, elements, seasons, mythic gods,
goddesses or heroes, literary figures (within the required timeframe, of
course)...the only limit is your imagination and creativity.

Site is the Agri-Expo Center at the Coliseum Complex in Fayetteville, North
Carolina. There will be scheduled children's activities from Noon to 6 PM.
An unsupervised TV/video room will be available from 6 PM to 11 PM. There
will be a static Arts & Sciences Display beginning at 11 AM. There will be
roving Arts & Sciences Competitions in the following categories: Best Animal
Mask, Best Non-Animal Mask/Face Decoration, Best Interpretation of Animal
Costume, Best Interpretation of Non-Animal Costume. Part of the fun is
trying to figure out who is who. To that end, there will be a "Match the
Costume with the Peer" contest. Also a scroll competition, Royal Bard
competition, kingdom award medallion competition. These competitions will
take place during the afternoon. For those who choose not to dance, games
of chance and skill will abound. Merchants are welcome and should
pre-register at least two weeks in advance. Tentative schedule is as
follows: Main Hall Opens 10 AM. First Court Begins at 1 PM. Break at 2 PM
for all gentles to change into costume. The Ball will be held in two
segments: 3 PM - 5 PM, and 8 PM - ???. Second Court Begins at 5:30 PM.
