DescriptionIncubation is a 1997 Squad-level tactical combat game from BlueByte that can be played as PBeM or online. You get a certain amount of money to buy and equip soldiers with Guns, Lasers, Jetpacks etc., place them on a map ranging from 20x20 to 40x40 and then go have at each other for around 15 turns, which is the usual time for one of the two to four players to complete his/her mission objectives. While the game display uses a 3D engine, multiplayer gameplay is largely twodimensional and involves sneaking around walls and through doors or lying in wait for those who opt to sneak at you ;). The game runs best on a P166 and up, on just about every 32-bit Windows version, I think. While the game was sold commercially (and can sometimes be found as part of the "Battle Isle Platinum" pack in the bargain bin), a free download is available at http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=2803 . I expect this includes the "Wilderness Missions" addon, which is commonly used. The game includes many solo missions which feature mean-looking aliens, and cooperative multiplayer is also available via PBM and online. Incubation is ESRB-rated at M:"Mature, ages 17+, animated blood/gore, animated Violence", mainly due to the aliens in the solo missions. http://www.bluebyte.net/eng/products/incubation/index.htm platoonwars.de.vu is the site through which an independent ladder is being organized. While that site is German, it is sufficiently bilingual for english-speaking players to find their way around; and so are the other players. If you have problems, inquire at the on-line forum. The web site serves only to find and challenge opponents, to enter results into the ladder/league, and to generally communicate about the game; the games themselves are played independently and don't require web support. Other sites you can check are the noticeboard on www.doublefire.net and the information and forum on http://scayra.free.fr/incubation/ . There is no single GM, but feel free to address any questions you might have to me. mendel |
