Merchants List: Add a new entry

To add a new merchant to the SCA Juried Merchants list, please fill out this form. Feel free to make your entries longer than the boxes seem to allow.

PLEASE NOTE: IN ORDER TO BE PUT ON THE LIST, YOU HAVE TO PASS MY TEST. MOST APPLICANTS IGNORE THE TEST, AND THUS FAIL IT. This means they waste their time, and they waste my time. Read all of the text on this page before you fill out the form.

This list is juried, but only in a very minimal fashion. An ideal merchant would have enough information by every item that your customers won't have to ask, "but when and where was this item actually used?". And your customers would never walk out of your store with an un-authentic item thinking it was authentic.

Few merchants are ideal, but some definitely don't make the grade. Examples of things which make a merchant fail are:

If you sell "traditional" items (old, but not known how old), or items for other re-enactor eras, such as English Civil War or US Civil War, I would like you to label these items clearly. You can do this in one of 3 ways: You can label every item in your catalog with a time period. You can divide your catalog into sections, which each section having a similar time period. Or you can make a special SCA-specific section of your catalog in which you cross-list items which are suitable for the SCA time period.

Just so you know, my pet peeve is merchants which stock both traditional and early music, without indicating which is which. It's very easy for the average customer to become confused by such a setup.

If you have any questions about my criteria, please send me email at lindahl@pbm.com.

Overall Description:

If a merchant doesn't have a webpage or email, they are still welcome on this list. Just make sure that their "overall description" includes details of how to get a catalog, etc. You may also use the "invisible email" field above to enter an email address which will be visible to me but not to the general public. That is useful for a merchant without email but with a friend who is willing to maintain their listing for them.

Note that if you don't have a catalog on the web, you'll have to either mail or email me a catalog, or describe to me the kind of work you do so that I can figure out if you pass or fail my test.

In each of the following categories, enter a description only for the categories for which you sell items. For example, if you sell Medieval and Renaissance CD's, you would state that in the description under the Music and Dance category. If you don't sell any items in a category, please leave the description for that category blank. (These descriptions can be longer than the 80 characters shown.) At least one category needs an entry!

Parting Comments

In this box, please tell me why you pass my test, keeping in mind that the only way to pass is by having your items labeled with the time and place that they come from, not by having sold items to SCAdians for many years. And no, it doesn't matter if you have a Laurel. You can type as much text as you like, but the best answer is: "Yes, I have labeled all of my stock as to the time and date it comes from."

Finally a pop quiz:

Question 1: Is every item in your catalog labeled with a time and place?
